Same experience here.  I use it in all my older engines where either smoke,
compression, valve noise (hydraulic lifters) is a problem.  It is a BandAid,
not a repair.  Like all of these addititives, it does nothing for a healthy
engine and is perhaps undesirable.  BUT, for a slightly sick engine, it is a
big help.  The biggest benefit I have seen is when used as a BandAde for
leaking valve seals.  It will stop the leak down the valves pretty nicely. 
It also will help with compression seal, as Carl said.  That helps with
performance and oil burning.  Remember, oil LOWERS the effective octane of
the fuel promoting knock and ping(k).
