Some official info is incorrect in that it shows the level of the oil 0.5"
above the top of the damper *cylinder* instead of 0.5" above the top of the
damper *piston*. If you try to keep it above the top of the cylinder you
will be topping it up every few miles as the excess is rapidly burnt in the
engine. In fact if you can unscrew the damper, lift it up, press it down
and feel the resistance of the oil in the damper before the plastic cap
reaches the cover you have enough, how soon before shows you how much of a
'reserve' you have, and you can go a long way below 0.5" above even the
piston (like an inch below) before you need to top up. You really shouldn't
need to top up in several thousand miles.
