Happy Holidays to all.
A few months back, I was trying to find out why the 79B wouldn't start, and
the wiring under the dash and in the steering column starting smoking. I
quickly pulled off a battery cable and only had to end up replacing the
faulty ignition switch and part of the brown hot wire. If I hadn't had the
battery cover off and the lever-type battery post connectors, I think I
would have had a real mess; probably ruining the loom, and possibly burning
the car and the garage/house too.
Therefore, I've decided I want to install a battery cut off switch. I think
right behind the passenger seat on the vertical section of metal (I'm sure
there is a technical name for this) just in front of the battery would be
ideal. There I could also routinely reach over after parking and shut it off
to avoid theft. I have purchased the cut off switch from O'Reilly's for $46
and a couple of connectors. I believe I should just cut the positive cable
between the starter and the positive battery post, slice on some connectors
on the two cut ends, and attach them to the cut off switch. Before cutting
a hole in the metal and taking this on, I'd like any advise from people that
have BTDT.
Thanks,
Monte
