I'm also inclined to sand and repaint the area due to brake fluid reeking
havic on the paint job.

  From pictures that looks a lot of work to go to as the connections seem to
  be so easily accessible.  I'd think in terms of checking it wasn't some
  simple fix (*not* plumbers tape), or even replacing the pipe connector
  before pulling the MC.
