I'm quite sure that in the British motor industry by 1956 about the only
things going out the door on a BMC product still using BSF threads were S.U.
parts (fuel pump and carbs). Certainly the rest of the car's parts that were
utilizing BMC's A, B, and C series engines, gearboxes, rear axles and so on
were fitted with UNF thread systems. Body and trim fasteners were also using
the UNF system pretty much across the board.
Of course there were exceptions, but they were becoming very rare by 1956. And
as a footnote, there were NO metric threads used anywhere on these cars.

You are correct! I went back and reread the manual and UNF is almost the
same as SAE. I must have read over "not" cause it says "not the same" for BSF
vs. UNF. In Clarke's catalog he indicates 10/32, 1/4-28, 5/16-24, 3/8-24 are
the most common with some BSF/Whitworth threads in components like guages,
brakes, etc. Which is why I thought I wasn't confused and was going to save
the bolts, but use SS washers and nuts. Is Clarke right? If so it would make
most fasteners on the MGA UNF and not BSF right? I am confusing myself just
righting this e-mail. Anyway, thanks for your response as it corrected my
mistake. I will have to take a step back and change my direction.

No, I don't think so.
You may be confusing BSF with UNF.
The threads per inch as well as the pitch angle for BSF (British Standard
Fine) are completely different. UNF (Unified National Fine) however is
virtually the same as SAE fine.
Example, for a 1/4" BSF thread the pitch is 26 threads per inch. The 1/4"
UNF and the 1/4" fine SAE are both 28 threads per inch.
