MGA Turn Signal

I took the thing apart last night and the leather seal seems to be moist and
supple.  Of course, it is dry now where I have been playing with it.  I
pushed the little cotton ball out and it is as hard as a rock.  I guess the
next step will be to revitalize the leather seal, replace the cotton ball
and reassemble.  What else should I do?
