Correct, clearance is the correct word.

With the motor being supercharged, the tighter clearance means that
the rod would not bang as hard on the journals. The thinner oil is to
compensate for the tighter clearance and get the oil flow. We also
looked around quite a bit to find a set of the good (practically NLA)
clevite bearings.

I'll check it with plastigage and see what sort of clearance I'm
getting.
