Merl,
You need to remove the spark plugs and crank it for several minutes to
get oil pressure.
I routinely do this with both my MGB (1980) and my Healey when they have
been sitting for a while. It takes a while, but eventually I do get 20#
or so. I usually run the starter for a about 30-60 seconds at a shot
with about the same interval in between, just to keep it from
overheating.

I have been restoring my 1980 MGB since last April. When I cranked it

for the 1st time I could not get any oil pressure. When I looked at the
engine last summer, the oil pump clearances were well with in tolerance.

thinking that the pump needs priming so I put oil into the oil filter

still could not get any pressure. I know for fact that it is not my
gauge.
Anybody have any ideas on why I have no pressure and what I need to do.
