I mean reading the repair manual and properly setting the brake pedal free
play. This wasn't actually my idea, I was talking to an MG mechanic locally
about the trouble I was having bleeding the brakes. He reached in the car,
grabbed the brake pedal and pushed it. He said the free play was not correct
(as in none) and if I would set it I would probably get some more air out of
the system and not have any more problems. He was correct.

What do you mean by that?
