I can confirm Paul=E2=80=99s last sentence. My February 1971 BGT has a simi=
lar issue sometimes.

Rocking the hazard switch a few times always helps.

It still is the original switch and so is the indicator relay as well.

The grease issue happened on the heater fan switch as well.

Cleaning and adding new grease solved the problem there.

Cheers,

Hans

Onderwerp: Re: [Mgs] Hazard flasher question

Flasher? W1, C1 and C2 are the terminals on a particular Lucas relay used =
as the electric fan relay for the GT V8, for example, but were used for oth=
er things on a number of other British makes and marques. They are rectang=
ular.

Are you sure the flasher unit (strictly speaking it's not a relay) goes beh=
ind the console? It did on some cars, but on others it was behind the dash=
pushed into a clip screwed to the bulkhead. 2-pin are rectangular but sma=
ller than the relays, 3-pin may be cylindrical and quite a bit larger. I'm=
not aware of a relay inside the cabin on any MGB, maybe someone in the pas=
t went to replace the flasher unit but asked for a relay instead.

The wire colours should be brown to the X terminal on the flasher unit, lig=
ht-green/brown to L to light the lamps at the corners of the car via the ha=
zard switch, and light-green/purple on P for the tell-tale on the console. =
Also the brown comes via an in-line fuse (brown both sides) which should b=
e near the flasher unit and is shown as connecting directly to it, no bulle=
t connector on the flasher unit side although there is a 2-way connector on=
 the supply side.

Problems with some lights flashing and some not, and the indicators not wor=
king, are usually down to the hazard switch itself. On most cars it is ver=
y rarely used and the grease hardens over time to become an insulator rathe=
r than a lubricant. Sometimes flipping the switch back and fore a few time=
s will get it going again, but I've had to dismantle the switch, clean out =
the old grease and use fresh before it worked consistently
