When I said the two toothed plates were "not aligned on precisely the same =
plane," I meant that=E2=80=94viewed from on edge=E2=80=94they were not dire=
ctly above one another. Since the plates can't be kept absolutely tight to=
gether=E2=80=94pushing on the adjusting lever moves them slightly (<2 mm) a=
part at the upper (coil spring) end=E2=80=94there is only about half-width =
contact of the teeth, and one side of the tip of each tooth is worn away at=
such an angle that the plates slide away from each other under pressure an=
d the teeth won't stay in mesh. We don't see any reasonable way of getting=
the teeth re-cut to square the tips off, so it's look-for-another-seat-fra=
me time (hence my next post). (Yes, we could put the seat back in, positio=
n it, take it out again, weld it, put it back in again=E2=80=94but the car =
isn=E2=80=99t driven in the winter, so we=E2=80=99ll just let it sit until =
we see if we can find another seat frame.)

Those teeth do seem pronounced, even with some wear.=C2=A0 What is the mesh=
ing-half like, although I can't remember what form they take?=C2=A0 If they=
are not in line are they able to slip past one another, i.e. straightening=
 may help?
=C2=A0
Is recline adjustment needed i.e. more than one occupant who moves it?=C2=
=A0 Until a suitable replacement is found could=C2=A0 it be locked in posit=
ion with a bolt, or even welding, to enable it to be used?
