As was suggested by one of our esteemed members, I performed a test just =
now, comparing =E2=80=9COfficial SU Oil=E2=80=9D, 10W30 motor oil, and =
75W90 gear oil.

I poured a line of the oil on a plastic lid, then tilted it to observe =
the =E2=80=9Clegs=E2=80=9D (to use an oenophile term). As far as I could =
tell, there was no real difference in how fast they flowed or how =
=E2=80=9Cviscous=E2=80=9D they appeared. This leads me to believe that =
any reasonable grade of motor oil would serve the purpose.

But keep in mind that the ambient temperature was 85=C2=BA F. Now think =
of your poor carbs in a cold garage in Maine, or Wisconsin, in February. =
I am wondering how stiff the gear oil would be under those =
circumstances.
