Waxoyl or what else?

Hi Folks-I reciently purchased "bonnet stays"-Seemed like a good ideaget
access to the motor form both sides at the same time. Anyway the
instructions call for the drilling of holes and suggests using waxoyl to
prevent oxidation.  I'm willing to do that but I wondered if there was an
advantage of this stuff over locally available metal primer paints? Thanks
for your input.
