Over the last couple of days I've been talking to William M. Button
who is trying to get me some info for the Morgan WEB page. Based on
some of the problems, we've been having, I thought I send out a
note describing what I use, what formats to send me, and how to
do it.

A. Sending wordprocessing documents as attachments. Word Processor
docs. are considered binary files by most mail packages due to
the control code inserted by the wordprocessors.

My mailer has 2 encoding scheames built in, either binhex or MIME.

B. Next, if you are using a word processor, I'd prefer that you send
me a document in either Windows Write format or as an ASCII file.
My wordprocessor is MS. Works, somewhere between Write and Word.

C. To save a document in either ASCII or Write, load the document into
your WP, then use the save as option. Under the Type there is
   usually several other formats.

C. What I do for all the stuff I send and even work up for the Web
page, is I've installed a printer configuration for Generic ASCII
text to a file. Then I print the document to that printer. Vola,
an ASCII document. The only draw back to this is that all special
formatting (such as bold, underline, etc.) are stripped out.

D. Most mailer editors will not take files longer than 32,000 char.
Also various mailers support different encodeing functions for
none ASCII documents as attachments. The most common are BINHEX,
   MIME, and UUENCODING.

It is almost easier to convert a Word processor document into
an ASCII file instead of playing the games with which conversion
two people are using. Due to the length of a document, sometime
it is necessary to break up a document into pieces to send it.

First thing you have to find out how long the doc. is. If it is
over 25,000 char. it will have to be broken into pieces. What I
do is to take the size (found in File Manager) and divide that by
about 15,000 so I have an idea of how many pieces I need to break
   it into.

For example if the document is 40,000 char long:

    40,000
    ------ = 2.6
    15,000

So I have to break it into 3 pieces.

   1. Load the document into the wordprocessor
   2. estimate where 1/3 of the document is. At that point I insert a
line of ---------s to mark where I the 1st 1/3 is.
   3. Save this modified file to a temporary file name,
   4. Starting on the line above the ---------------, click on that
line, them move to the top of the file, and while holding the
Shift key, click on the 1st line. This will highlight the 1st
1/3 of the article. Copy this to the copy buffer, either by
going to the edit pull down menu or for most programs Ctrl C.
   5. I usually will open Notepad and paste the data from the buffer
into Notepad. Now I end up with an ASCII file when I save it.
Copy the data in the copy buffer to Notepad, Ctrl V.
   6. Save the contents of Notepad to a file (I usually make it easy
A.TXT. Once save, make Notepad ready for the next doc. by
      selecting NEW..
   7. Go back to the Word Doc. If you haven't guessed where the next
break should be, do so now. Again I insert a line of --------s.
   8. Repeat the cut from the wordprocessor and paste to Notepad for
the remaining portions of the orig. document.
   9. When complete, each of the sections will be less than 32,000
char in size and should fit into the mail editor.
  10. Simply open a new mail message, and Notepad. Load the 1st
part of the document into Notepad and select all. Copy the
data from Notepad into the text part of the mail message.
  11. Repeat this with the remaining parts of the document.

Hope this helps.
