Several years ago I helped a friend redo his 4/4. For four months, while I
did the body work I kept reminding him that he needed to choose a color.
Each meeting brought a new choice.
On the day I was going to spray the car he came over and we went to the
paint store, Not only did he spend an hour looking at chips but we then
drove to several dealerships so he could look at colors on a full size car.
Four hours later, as the store was about to close he was still trying to
make a choice.
The solution came when I remembered that my daughter had left a box of
crayons in the car. Opening the box I said " Choose one of these colors!
A minute later the clerk started mixing the paint.
Of all the decisions in buying or restoring a car none seems to be as
complex as the "COLOR"
To this day when choosing a color, I always follow the Biney and Smith rule
of eight. The point in history when life started becoming complex was when
Biney and Smith broke with tradition and started offering more than eight
colors.
