Hey Guys,

The current (9-20-99) issue of Autoweek has a "Headliner" story titled "Easier
Import Rules" that is pretty interesting.

It indicates that it is now much easier to bring new (or "recent") cars into
the US that do not meet safety, emissions, and other federal requirements.
Gone are the days when the cars would have to be brought up to the standards
in place for the year of the car's manufacture.

It is now possible for INDIVIDUALS ONLY to apply to bring in otherwise
non-qualifying cars for their PERSONAL "show or display" use including up to
2,500 miles annually of street use.

The vehicle must be of "historical or technical value" and must not be a
vehicle previously imported by the manufacturer. Applications must be filed
individually. Restrictions follow the vehicle and apply to subsequent
purchasers.

Not the best rules, but a hell of a lot better than "offroad (i.e., race) use
only."

Cheers!
