I got into it late. When I bought my supposedly completely rebuilt,
fresh and race-ready car from New England Classics in Stratford CT, I
had to spend US$3000 on the suspension, brakes, generator, starter,
etc., just to get it to pass tech inspection. At my first race at Lime
Rock CT, and intermittantly before, the car kept cutting out on me, just
coasting to a halt. Left me stranded on the back of the course. Problem
was, I drove the car there myself from home, because I wanted to drive
the car to the course and race it and drive home again. Found a guy at
the track with a shop nearby who said if I could get the car there, he'd
take a look. Got a tow, the tow line jumped off my hook up, wrapped
around the tie rod, bent it into a u shape and that's how the car
arrived at the repair shop. Gas tank was full of rust, like coffee
grounds.
Three years and thousands later, I have a trailer, fuel cell and a
reasonably reliable car.
And the racing has always been fun.
