An alternative to the lead or rubber hammers for the knock offs is a large 
knock off wrench, about $30 bucks (from most of the Brit parts houses 
(available for either the ear or nut style knock offs), The closed end 
cleverly fits and locks over the ears and you use the torque from its length 
(physics boys physics, get a large enough fulcrum and you can move the 
earth), it tightens the suckers safely and doesnt go near the ears to bugger 
them up.  Good Xmas stocking stuffer for your list next year.
Rick Rader, who has used rubber, lead, brass, wood blocks, carpet scraps and 
sledge hammers over the years like most of us.....
