Thanks for taking the time to answer my e-mail question.I think it would be
interesting to join your email list. Actually my buddy is in on this project
with me also. We started to take her apart last Sat, was surprised how well
bolts were coming out. You know its been in the Canadian wilderness, sitting
for 26 years. But I guess thetas all part of the fun. I'm a class A mechanic
myself so I know what were in for. Had fun though, look forward to getting
back to it. I have all the numbers if you can do something with them. I've
tried a few people on the net and they can;t seem to tell me anything. I'll
give you the numbers see what you can do. I'd appreciate it. Here
goes---------- Model # 9314 Serial# 0931409437 Engine # C385474 Body #
3013 Trim # 394 Paint #32. See what you can do and can you send me more
info on the list? Thanks again for your help, look forward to hearing from
you. Rick

Yes, this can be also determined from the ID plate (on the driver's door
jamb), but here goes. In 1947 (late half) and 1948, the gas tank filler
spout was in the bed. In 1949 the filler (and tank) moved to the cab and
stayed there for the rest of the life of the Advance Design models. In 1949
and 1950, no vent window but there was a side vent. In 1951 the vent window
began and stayed to the end, but the side vent disappeared. In 1947 -1951,
the trucks had turn down door handles. In 1952, they went to push button.
Now, how to tell a 1949 from a 1950? Good question. I don't know of
anything off hand other than in 1949 (early models), there were a couple of
inside the cab minor differences, but this wouldn't differentiate between a
late '49 and a '50. If you have the ID (VIN) number, send it, and I should
be able to get it deciphered. Also, you really ought to think about joining
the oletruck email list I started a couple of years ago. Lots of others
with similar types of questions and answers. Over 500 members and all with
1941 -1959 GM trucks. Let me know if you want to join and I'll take care of
it. If you do, and then later decide to quit, not at all a problem.

I really enjoyed your page. Looking at that old truck is great. I have a
slight prob, that maybe you can help me out with. I recently picked up an
old GMC late 40,s early 50,s. Trying to figure out what year it is. was told
it was a 50. Are there any tell tale signs of the year? And if so can you
share them with me? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks bbfn. Send you a
pic when I get a scanner. Rick
