what is the recomended RPMs that is safe for a 216 engine. >>

I like 55 with my stock 50 half ton and G78-15 tires.

I got a call yesterday from a guy with a 49 GMC 3/4 ton that wouldn't go over
45. He had a rebuilt 261 from Jim Carter and 4.56 rear with 16" tires (
235-85 R16). He wanted to swap for a 4.11 rear or lower. He said he
couldn't go faster even down hill. I didn't think it was the rear ratio that
was holding him back as I can do a comfortable 55 with my 50 235 one ton with
5.14 rear and 7.50-17 tires, and my 54 261 wrecker with same rear and tires.
No nasty comments about my non stock engines, please. I asked the caller if
he thought GM would sell any trucks if they didn't go faster than 45 right
out of the factory? I suggested he check engine breathing.
