| Resistors - "resist" the flow of current
                   have units of Ohms
                   ohms value can be calculated with Ohms Law
                                 Resistance = Voltage / Current
                   have an associated tolerance - i.e. 20% 10% 5% 1% 0.1%
                   have an associated power capacity - how much can it handle
                                   Power = Voltage * Voltage / Resistance
Diodes (rectifier type - for example) - only allow the flow of current in
one direction
                   have an associated power handling capability
                    have an associated forward voltage drop
                           (based on technology of the device)
                    have an associated maximum reverse voltage capability
want more - just ask
