Hi...my suggestion is to whack off the Caddy spring perches, and use the
old truck spring perches. For one thing, if you mount the rearend on
top of the springs, by the time you put some weight on it, the rearend
will hit the frame, and the truck will be below "in the weeds"...you
will have lowered it quite a bit! For another thing, the Seville (which
is actually a Nova in disguise) spring perches are for a different type
of spring than is used on old trucks, and will not clamp the oletruck
springs properly.
Of course, there is the possibility that you changed to different type
springs and didn't tell us... :)
By using the truck spring perches and mounting hardware, the shock
problem will go away, and you will be able to set the pinion angle
properly. Note that the figure of 12 degrees is the angle between the
spring perches and the centerline of the pinion gear...you want the
pinion gear to be just a degree or so down in front from being directly
parallel to the engine/tranny centerline.
