The grilles are pretty sturdy. Sandblasting should do fine. You can
either send it to a shop for sand blasting or DIY with a cheap bucket
blaster or something more expensive to suit your taste. I'd try baking soda
out of the box, and if that doesn;t work, get some sand or beads..
Mine are kind of beat up, so I took them apart to do a little hammer and
dolly work. Chevy duty has a nice package of all the fasteners you need if
you decide to do it that way.
A couple of my pieces were so rusted that sandblasting revealed some holes.
I built up the metal with brazing rod, then filed and sanded it flush.

Sounds good. I got a jug of stuff called Defender II made by State Chemical
Co. You just paint it on the rust and it forms a blue chemical that won't
rust anymore. I usually get the rust off first, but you don't have to.
Then you can paint or undercoat. There's other products like that
available.
