The following was found in the latest edition of Auto Restorer, and I
thought it may be of interest to members of the list. This is scary
stuff.

"A bill has been introduced in te Alabama legislature that would allow
municipalities or counties to remove inoperable motor vehicles from
private property if the vehicle were deemed to be a nuisance. The
legislation defines an inoperable vehicle as any motor vehicle that has
remained on private property in view of the general public for at least
30 days. Furthermore, the bill says vehicles may be deemed inoperable
if one or more of its major components is missing or not functional.
Municipalities and counties could dispose of these vehicles by sealed
bid or auction. In urging hobbyists to oppose the bill, the Specialty
Equipment Market Association (SEMA) said it 'demonstrates a lack of
understanding of the vehicle hobby.' If you need assistance in
contacting your Alabama legislator, call the legislature's general
information line at 334/242-7600."
