A electric vacuum pump exists on gm diesel trucks and suburbans c-10/c-20.
This might be a junkyard fix but it works.

I tired them and they did an A#1 rebuild on my vacuum wiper motor (nice
people too).  The setup worked great with one carb, but a multiple carb set
up makes driving in the rain a little more fun.  An auxiliary vacuum assist
on the fuel pump helped a little, but was a disappointment.......  I agree,
no need to bite yet.
