On engines with an exterior canister type oil filter it is necessary to
add an additional quart when changing the oil and filter because of the
oil that was in the dirty filter and the surrounding canister.

I heard this afternoon that if you install an external oil filter, that
when changing the oil you needed to add 6 quarts, instead of the
standard 5. Can anyone confirm this? The dipstick in my 216 came out of
some other type of engine, so its no help.
