Does anybody know how to get in touch with Grant or one of their
suppliers for a steering wheel or an adapter for my '49? I have
checked all the 1947-72 Chevy Parts guys..the only one that had an
adapter was LMC and it was for 55-59 Chevy trucks.

I have mid 70s vintage Chevy truck stock steering wheels on my 59
trucks. The 57-59 have a dished wheel originally, so the later steering
wheels work ok...although the ones I have don't have as much dish as the
original steering wheel did.
Grant does make adapters for their line of steering wheels to fit old
Chevys, I have one on my 55 Belair.
You will probably find that a Grant (or later stock Chevy) steering
wheel is going to be a few inches closer to your body than the stock
wheel was, on any oletruck thru 1956. The diameter will be smaller, as
well. Steering will be more difficult, but I've never had a
problem....I got used to it over 20 years ago when I first swapped
steering wheels.
The column on these old trucks is part of the steering box, so you can't
easily change it. If you are good at fabricating, and sure of your
skills (this is an area that affects safety), you can cut off and
respline the steering shaft just above the steering box, cut off the old
column, add a seal, and use a later column.
