I grew up not far from the Chevrolet Oakland Plant and remember the awesome
industrial complex when I was a kid. A few years ago my curiosity took me
to the Oakland History Room at the Oakland Public Library where I dug up all
kinds interesting stuff on this place. The results of my efforts were
published in THIS OLD TRUCK in the Sep / Oct 1997 issue and in PICKUPS 'N
PANELS a few monts later.

Here's the Readers Digest version:
In 1916 it opened for production.
In 1936 additional space was acquired for the production of trucks and GM's
Pacific Coast Parts Warehouse.
In 1963 the plant went toes up and the property was redeveloped into what is
now Eastridge Mall.
Today, I would not go there alone or ever at night.

That's progress, I guess.

Hope this helps.
