Looking through a 1955-57 GMC Truck Models 100-500
Flat Rate manual I recently acquired I found an
hour to dollar conversion chart. One of those
things for those of us who cannot multiply numbers
that have decimal places to worry about. You know,
1.8 hours X labor rate per hour = labor price.

Anyway, what I really got a kick out of was the
labor rate per hour figures. They started at
$1.50 and went through $5.00. I thought this was
some kind of incredible deal until I remembered
that in 1957 I got about $1.50 per job for mowing
and raking the grass, trimming and sweeping along
sidewalks and driveways. Took me about 4 hours.
Works out to 37.5 cents per hour.

oletrucks is devoted to Chevy and GM trucks built between 1941 and 1959
