Rob,
Went this way to correct the RE set-up in my '51. The PO put a Dana44 on
the stock leafs and didn't pay alot of attention to details.
My research turned up pretty much what you found. $140 is a bit pricey!
First question: do you need the rear upper shock mounts? I'm not sure
about the '50, if you need them, the "kit" format is probably how you
need to go. Also do you need new perchs? Once again, if you need these
too, the "kit" is probably on spot.
If you do not need the shock mounts or the perchs I would suggest
contacting:
"Classic Performance Products"
@ (800) 522-5004
(I think I dealt with a "Robert" in sales/tech)
and/or
www.classicperform.com
After a lot of headaches I tracked these guys down; I'm pretty sure
these folks are responsible for manufacturing the "kits" for the
vendors, or at least a couple of them.
I was able to get the perch "offset adapter plates" and the "u-bolt tie
plates" from these folks and if I remember correctly, I got both for
about $68.00 plus s&h. Better than $140, eh?
The tie plates are designed to be used with the stock rear leafs and RE
tubes from 2 3/4 to 3 inches. Use of these parts will allow for the
offset in the RE tube and leaf springs and allow for a stock wheelbase
spec.
Go to a local suspension shop for your u-bolts, it'll be cheaper.
Hope this helps-Steve
