Seems like this topic was just on either the NAPCO list or the Suburban list. 
 Per the comments, there weren't any 1 ton Suburbans from the factory, but 
there were shops that would do custom conversions for military, school, etc 
applications.  It could be one of those or it could be a hack.  The March 
Classic Trucks has a F*rd Ranger article that showed a panel to "suburban"  
conversion available in 1950 from one of the many commercial modifiers.
