55-2 or 55-1. I have both a 56 and a 57. The 56 (and 55-2, and
probably the 55-1 and 54) had the flat steering wheel. Starting
in 57, the steering shaft is a little shorter and the wheel is dished
in at the center (more modern looking). The biggest advantage I
see to the 57 design is that I don't bump the horn when I turn the
wheel on the 57. The 57 button would look way out of place on a
55-2 or 56 wheel.

The outside of the horn button is the same on both the 56 and 57
(and presumably the 55-2). The inside is longer on the 57 than the
56.

I'll see if I can borrow the digital camera from work and get pictures
of both for you.
