Boy, really depends on if you need one ASAP and the condition of the
motor. If it has good compression and doesn't smoke, you might pay more
more, if it looks like it needs work, then I wouldn't pay much more than a core
price.

Take a gallon of gas, two 5foot lengths of fuel line and a cheap electric
fuel pump with you, also take a few gallons of water too incase the radiator is
dry. Fire it up and see if it smokes oil, let it run at about 2000rpms for
10-15
miutes, let it idel down and check the oil pressure, then do a compression test
on it.

If the motor appears to be a runner, might be worth 250-300 if you
need one to "drop in and go". If it looks like it needs to come apart,
then not much more than a core charge, figure the accessories like the carb and
generator, manifolds to amke up the difference for your time to pull it.

The tranny should be considered "topping", and unless yours is
really bad, this one shouldn't be much better:)

how much is a 235 engine w/ 4speed tranmission worth (complete to be taken

out of a truck, will start with help by adding fuel, but truck doesn't have

brakes, gastank etc. to drive)
