Subject: [oletrucks] Window regulators broke?

Hi all,
Question again...
On my '53:
I've got 2 window regulators for 1 door. The one in the truck works fine,
but the splined end it all chewed up because the PO decided a vice grip
works better then a handle. The other regulator I got from a set of spare
doors I have (F/S BTW). The splines are perfect, but if you operate it as
if you were rolling the window down, the thing will just spring back up as
soon as you let go. Is this how they are supposed to work while they are
out of the door? Does the friction/weight of the window keep the regulator
from springing back up? Does this make any sense?
Thanks again for the help.
