First use a regular metal degreaser. Then put a _THIN_ coat of zinc
chromate primer. You can probably get this primer in an aerosol can at
a major paint mfg. co's. outlet. (DuPont, Sherwin Williams, PPG, Etc.)
The can directions should say that it is for priming aluminum and also
should say that a film thickness of about 1/10th to 2/10ths of a Mil dry
film. This about 1/10 of a normal paint film. It will have a yellow
transparent color that actually looks light green when applied properly
to bare aluminum. When this is dry for 24 - 48 hrs (room temp over 50
degrees) you can top coat with any finish that you want.
