To to guy with the "clicking noise" going uphill:
You are running too much advance. Back it off a little
(rotate the distributor slightly clockwise). That
clicking noise is more commonly referred to as pinging
or detonation. Not good on the engine!

To the guy with the vacuum proble on the Edelbrock
carb:
There are two ports on the Edelbrock carbs...one is
below the throttle plates, and therefore supplies full
manifold vacuum. The other is above the throttle
plates, and therefore supplies ported vacuum (vacuum
falls off when you open the throttle). 
Not sure which one you need, as there are situations
for both. Try them and see what works. The Edelbrock
carbs are unbeatable for street use (Holleys are
finicky, but better suited for racing) especially the
smaller (600-650) CFM carbs with electric chokes!
