Put an original type 6 volt starter on it. It will spin faster, and
probably fail sooner, because you're running it with too much voltage. When
I got my '55 1st it was running the original starter but otherwise had been
converted to 12 volts. I've since put a 12 volt seliniod operated starter
on it because I was tired of the floor pedal...
