A 383 stroker is generally a 350 small block with a different crank and
rods, making a longer stroke, hence the stroker part. The new crank and
connecting rods give the engine a longer stroke and therefore more cubic
inches.

Not totally sure but I think to make it '383' it might be bored 0.030 over.

Thanks to all for the recent smallblock discussion...I found it interesting,
and very informative.

...leaves me with some questions though...

What's a '383-stroker' ?? where does this fit in the SBC lineup??

and...

I have a '78 Camaro donor for the running gear for my '49 1/2-ton....I was
planning on 'freshing-up' the 305 and using it (it has 212K miles)....is
there anything I should do during the rebuild for either performance and/or
reliability??

your thoughts??

i run a 305 in my panel. somtimes wish i ran a bigger motor. 305 is same
stroke as 350. smaller bore. 307 is same bore as 350 but shorter stroke.
so-307 will give you power over 3000 rpm and 305 will give you power under
4500 rpm.
i ran 9.5-1 compression hyperutectic pistons, 260 cam, edelbrock intake/600
cfm carb, headers, HEI, electric fan/fuel pump, 58 cc heads with 194 /160
valves, no AC and it does alright. 700R4/3.42 rear with 255/60-15 tires.
moves 4000# pretty good-i get blase' about the power but friends who ride in
it when i stomp it seem impressed. i get 16-17 MPG i run 92 octane and it
doesnt ping about 14' advance or so.
help?
