I need some advice on what starter to buy for the 305 V8 in my '51 3100
since I do not have a starter with the engine. The engine is Chevy 305 HO
from an '84 Camaro but I think it has a larger (probably from an truck)
flywheel on it since the clutch disc measures 11 inches and the flywheel
measures 13 or 13.5 inches (I forget which). Should I buy a starter for
the Camaro ($80) which probably had a smaller flywheel in it (maybe like
158 tooth) or the truck ($49) which probably had the larger flywheel in it
(163 tooth??). My local auto parts store offered to let me take one home
and try it but I wanted to get some advice from some of the experts on the
list. I could even bolt up an older style starter since I have an early
bellhousing that has starter bolt holes in it but I don't want to mess with
that. Thanks.
