I'm still under 50 so I'll try to answer for the young guys who chop up
antiques.

My 55 1st seems safe at 50 with basically stock suspension. At 55 it wants
to drift a little more than I like, and I've not had it over 60 since that
day I pushed it all the way to 70 and had to run home for fresh underwear.
It rattles enough

That day it had brand new radial tires on it and seemed like a good time to
try a speed run.

To be fair all I've done is grease it, and who knows when or if ever the
king pins, tie-rod ends or drag link might have been replaced... I had a
shop look at it when I first bought it, and they said it was fine, but would
need a drag link soon.

I have a friend with a '46 that he won't drive over 45. His drives a lot
like mine, except I feel comfortable a little faster than he does.

I've thought about buying all the parts and rebuilding all of it, because I
suspect it would be fine at any legal speed, but I rarely drive it anywhere
that anything past 60 is legal and I have too many other things to do.

My bet is that I'd have to replace a lot of parts to make it feel good and
steady at 70 or so, and it would still be higher than I want, and ride
rougher than I want and I'd still end up putting IFS under it later.

I'd love to know what someone else's experience is with running one of these
down the freeway at speed....

50? 60? 65? I don't see why I can't have something old but good. I'd make a
comment abt all you young guys who chop up antique trucks (front clips, etc)
, except I might end up doing it myself.
