OK, I'll bite.  

I did a Google search and came up empty.  Do you have a URL to any mention of 
this?  Maybe some newspaper article or TV web site?  Sounds awful "urban 
legendish" to me.

The US Coast Guard just yesterday sunk a 1951 5 window AD, in the Gulfstream 
between Cuba and Florida. It was deemed a hazard to Navigation after Quite few 
Cuban refugees were taken off of it and returned to Cuba. the truck/raft was 
kept afloat by 55 gallon drums, and had a propellor attached to the driveshaft, 
that pushed it along at 8 MPH. The Coast Guard intercepted the Chevy truck 
about 40 miles off the coast of Cuba.
