I bet it's the electric fuel pump.  My 58 did that and we replaced the
pump with a manual one which solved the problem.

such luck. it will start and run but when i step on the gas it either

details-305sbc pumped a little, HEI, edlebrock carb, manual choke, elect
fuel pump,
