If you are planning to do much highway driving check the ratios of both rear
ends. If your 56 is numerically high (say 3.90 or 4.11) and the 66 has a
numerically lower ratio (like a 3.08) you might want to consider swapping the
later rear end into your 56. A 3.08 with 235/78x15" tires will spin your
engine at 2000 RPM at 60 MPH. Same tires, same speed with a 4.11 will be just
under 2700 RPM.

Of course the usual caveats apply when swapping rear ends. Width, mounting
hardware, etc.

Subject: [oletrucks] donor suitability?

Hello All,

I have a 56 Chevy 1/2 that I will be restoring/rodding and have been offered
a 66 Chevy 1/2 ton as a donor vehicle. The 66 has a 292 engine in it which
still runs so i intend to be using this. My Question is, is there anything
else in this truck that will be usable or interchangeable? I intend to have
a relatively low ride by the time all is said and done (air ride, 4 inches
sectionned off the bottom of cab) but for now, hey, a free part is a free
part. So short term goal is getting the truck moving. So, from the '66,
what will fit my TF?

Thanx,
Alain
