Mike, I got an old seat and redid it to replace the piece of junk that was
in the truck when I bought it. The better you prepare the frame the better
the result will be. Make sure the springs are all in decent shape and the
support rods that go around the spring frame are not seperated. I got the
upholstry from LMC Truck, pretty reasonable and a good fit. I didn't think
the kit they offered was wothwhile, all the pieces are available locally at
less costs. Get some 1/8 metal rod at the hardware store if you want to firm
up the seat, get some hog rings and a hog ring pliers while you are there.
Stop at a carpet shop and pick up a piece of underlayment to put over the
springs. You can get foam rubber at a fabric store or an upholstry shop. The
bottom of the seat is held on with clips but Ididn't like theway they held
so I used self tapping screws through the uphlstry material into the bottom
plate of the seat. The back is clamped on with the hog rings.
Stretch the cover as tight as you can and don't worry if you have to redo
some of the screws or hog rings to get it right. Etther do the job in the
hot sun or use a hair dryer to heat up the vinyl so it will stretch better
and be tight when it cools.
