I have a '49 Chevy pickup, but I never heard of a "late" model 1949. What's the
difference? Also, I always thought that the only difference between 3 on-a-tree
and a floor shift was the linkage, not the transmission, although I must admit
that I never heard of a 3 speed floor mounted model. All the floor shift trucks
I've seen had a fourth, 'granny' gear.
