Rick

I have been on the line to Bill quite a bit these past few days.

He sells and races with a kit of his own design, (He makes the kit that is
sold by MiniMania) and is very helpful.

You need to get a 5-speed tranny, shift lever, throwout bearing carrier and
fork, and the output yoke from a 1979-1982 Datsun 210. It should run you
around $200. He sells the kit with a new clutch, backplate, adapter,
mounts, etc. from about $400 - $550 depending upon how much work you do
yourself. Call him and he'll mail you a package about it. Do this before
you get the tranny and you'll be sure to get the right one.

It requires no cutting of the car, and some basic mechanical competence.

A few list members have them installed. I haven't got mine yet but I picked
up a 1982 tranny and bits with 80k miles on it today for $185. (Minus the
output yoke.) You'll save on that if you pull it yourself.

Phil Vanner
(Who in 1987 paid $100 for a whole 1981 Datsun 210 and beat it to death on
New York City streets for a year. - the tranny was possibly the best thing
about it.)
