hello,

i'm having a tricky problem with my oil pressure. when i start the car up
(69 midget) the pressure starts off at 70psi, by the time it is warmed up
to operating temp i have 30 psi idle and 50 psi running. so far so good,
drive for 5 or so miles pressure stays the same, drive any longer and the
pressure drops to 10 psi at idle and 25 - 30 psi running. this is a sudden,
new development. but that's not all. 2000 miles ago i made the mistake of
taking my car to a lbc mechanic to have a new head put on and a new clutch
installed. when i went to change my oil the other day i found that the
mechanic left off the pressure plate and spring from the canister oil filter
so basically i drove for 2000 miles without a filter. when i told the mechanic
about it he says he can't imagine how that happened! i've since converted to a
screw on filter so this can't happen again, but i'm wondering if his oversight
could have trashed my engine...

i'm also wondering if this could just be the gauge, the sender has a hose splice
in it, i don't think that is original.

any help would be appreciated. i'm using castrol 20w-50 in this car.

thanks,

Robert
