Thanks heaps to the people who sent messages about what oil to put in my
Mk2A 's dampers.

I got such a range of responses that I thought would be useful to all that
I thought I would summarise them (below) for all to see. I've left off the
names of who said what in case someone minds.

Answers (in no particular order):

1. You can obtain the actual "damper" oil from most suppliers but
motorcycle fork oil is the same thing. Just be sure and get a heavier
weight than motorcycles use. Get a 15 or 20 depending on how stiff you
want your shocks.

2. After looking at the price of damper oil from BritVic I found a bottle
of gunk
brand hydraulic jack oil at Pep boys. The back label sez: "For use in all
hydraulic jacks, snow plows and refillable shock absorbers, intermixes
completely with all other standard hyaraulic jack fluids."

I put it in my back shocks two weeks ago and nothing bad has happened yet.

3. I use 10W30 which was recommended by my local British car mechanic.

4. Originally Armstrong Shock Oil was recomemded; however I've been using
power steering sealer & conditioner as it also keeps the rubber seals
soft and working. I was using dextron until I me a guy at the Pittsburg
show who had a shock leaking and he used the sealer. The shock stopped
leaking and the last I heard he was still running the same shocks.

5. Armstrong Lever Shock Oil - available at british parts dears, where I got
mine. Although I really do run STP in the shocks on the race car. Easier
than finding .070" washers.

Thats it.

Hope it helps someone else.

Greg
