Other than looks I cannot see any reason why wire wheels would be considered
better than disc wheels.
They are maintenance intensive, look bad when dirty, hard to clean, sometinmes
squeek need tubes. One advantage I can think of is
you always have a hammer with you. My $.02, for high performance and light
weight advantages in unsprung weight go with an alloy wheel. Only maintenance
required is wash them when
you wash the car.
