Dave, gear oil and engine oil are rated on two different scales. If my memory 
serves me well 30W engine oil has almost the same viscosity as 90W gear oil. 
This information I believe is fact as it was presented to me by one of our 
lubrication specialists. (I work for a refinery).

Dave,

The note earlier on this list said that engine oil and gearbox oil were
rated on two different scales.  That, in fact, 90w gear oil is the same
viscosity as 30w engine oil.
